MERB/CMI is a bibliographic database of more than 31,000 resources in music and music education from 35 Canadian and International journals and other sources covering the period 1956 through the present. The journals are fully indexed by title, author, and subject.

Each retrieved entry consists of the title of an article followed by the author(s) and the source, using the following format:

      Title
          Author(s), Journal, Volume/Number (Date): Page(s)
NOTE: (optional) references to related articles and other useful information
  • Searches are not case sensitive ("music" and "Music" will act the same).
  • All queries are "partial text strings." For example, searching for "harmon" will find both "harmony" and "harmonic."
  • Author searches (last name first followed by a comma) reveal the most finds if you use only the surname (if fairly unique) or the surname plus a single initial (e.g., "Hanley" or "Hanley, B" -- no period).
  • Subject searches put you at the peril of the compilor to a certain extent and you may wish to consult the following lists before using this feature.

The subject feature draws together all related articles on a specific subject.

Information about the Journals indexed by the MERB/CMI database is found on the Journals page.
